Youth

Youth est la première pièce mise en scène
par Francis Guinle pour le Théâtre Lumière. Elle fut
jouée pour la première fois en 1990 ai théâtre
du Trancanoir à Lyon, à la suite d'un colloque organisé
par Jacques Ramel et Francis Guinle autour de la pièce de Shakespeare,
Troilus et Cressida. Il s'agit d'un interlude moral anonyme du début du XVIe sicèle (c. 1519). La pièce met en scène un personnage central, Youth (Jeunesse) tiraillé par des vices (Débauche, Orgueil, Luxure) et des vertus (Charité, Humilité). Tout d'abord séduit par les vices, il finit par se ranger du côté des vertu. Bien que jouée en anglais de la fin du Moyen âge, les spectateurs français de tous âges n'ont eu aucune difficulté à suivre la pièce qui fut gardée au répertoire pendant trois ans. |
Youth is the first play staged by Francis Guinle for the
Théâtre Lumière. It was frst performed at the Trancanoir
in Lyon, during a conference organized by Jacques Ramel and Francis Guinle
on william Shakespeare's play, Troilus and Cressida. Youth is a moral interlude from the beginning of the 16th century (c. 1519). It shows a protagonist, Youth, torn between three vices (Riot, Pride and Lechery) and two vertues (Charity and Humility). Youth is first attracted to the vices and totally gives in to htme. But in the end, he is won over by the vertues. In qpite of the fact that the play was acted in the original late medieval English, the French spectators seems to have had no difficulty in following the plot. It was kept in the troupe's repertoire for three years. |
